Gunstock War Club
Close-up 1             Close-up 2              Close-up 3             Close-up 4

Gunstock clubs were predominantly used by north eastern woodland tribes from the mid 1700's onwards, and later on they appeared among the plains Indians. Originally the clubs were used in battle , a devastating weapon, and a clever ruse because from a distance it looked like a carrier of the club was armed with a musket. Gunstock clubs have since been used ceremonially to this day.
The above example is based on the plains variations, it is a beautiful piece made from a solid, highly figured piece of curly maple. It is 34 inches long and features a fancy 4.5 inch forged iron blade that is fixed to the club with decorative brass pins. The club is further decorated with a very authentic fully beaded buckskin drop with tin cones and fringe, a beaded elk hide shoulder strap and a hand painted simulated eagle feather. All the leather thong ties are tipped with tin cones and red dyed horse hair tufts. The leather components have been partially colored with red earth pigments and the entire piece has been antiqued to simulate age.
A fine museum quality replica.

This is a reproduction neck knife, it is a very authentic piece made in the style of the northeastern woodland tribes. These knives were very common and often highly decorated. The knife has an overall length of 6 3/4 inches with the blade being 3 3/4 inches long. The handle is curly maple held in place by 4 brass pins. The blade is antiqued with a nice patina and features filework decoration.

The sheath is 9 1/2 inches long and is completely handmade of "tobacco" buckskin over a heavy leather inner. It has a fancy beadwork border and features genuine porcupine quillwork, and is further decorated with 8 aged tin cones with red-dyed horsehair tufts. The neck strap has an overall length of 13 inches and is made of the same buckskin, and decorated with beads and porcupine quills. Both the sheath and the strap are partially colored with red earth pigments.

The piece is brand new and in excellent condition, but with a small ink mark on the back side of the sheath.

An excellent reproduction.

Item #11
Coup Feathers
Close-up

Coup feathers were awarded to warriors for bravery in battle. When enough coup feathers were accumulated, a war bonnet was often made from them for the warrior. Our feathers are very authentic in style and are made from high quality hand-painted turkey feathers that very closely resemble the tail feathers of the immature golden eagle, which were most often used. They are tipped with rabbit fur and horsehair, the base is decorated with natural and dyed fluffs, and the quill is wrapped with red wool trade cloth tied with yellow thread. A buckskin lace is looped through the quill. approximate length (not including horsehair and lace) is 12 inches.
